If you are a current holder of a NYC DOB SST card you are required to renew your SST card every 5 years. You can renew your SST card online or in person by following the instructions below.

How Do I Renew My SST Card?

In order to renew your SST card you must complete a required amount of SST refresher training. 8 Hours of training is required for workers to renew their 40 hour SST card. 16 hours of training is required to renew your 62 hour supervisor SST card. After completing the training you can order your new SST card from your ablesafety.com account. Your new card will be valid for another 5 years.

If you have completed any of the training courses below within the past year they can be counted towards your hours of SST refresher training. Your package will be discounted based on the number of hours you have already completed.

Worker SST Card Renewal

If you are renewing a 40hr SST Worker card you have two training options to choose from to complete your 8 hours of SST refresher training.

Option 1:

  • 4-Hour Fall Prevention
  • 2-Hour Tool Box Talks
  • 2-Hour Pre-Task Safety Meeting
Supervisor SST Card Renewal

If you are renewing a 62hr SST Supervisor card you have three training options to choose from to complete your 16 hours of SST refresher training.

Option 1:
  • 8-Hour Fall Prevention
  • 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User & Refresher
  • 2-Hour Tool Box Talks
  • 2-Hour Pre-Task Safety Meeting
Option 2:
  • 8-Hour Fall Prevention
  • 8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher/Chapter 33
Option 3:
  • 8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher/Chapter 33
  • 4-Hour Fall Prevention
  • 2-Hour Tool Box Talks
  • 2-Hour Pre-Task Safety Meeting

How To Get Started

  • Click the “get started” button
  • Select the type of card you want to renew
  • Select which courses you have taken within the past year to reduce the amount of hours needed to renew your SST card.
  • There are multiple training options available to renew your SST card including online and in-person options. Select which option you are interested in.

Question & Answer

Local Law 196 of 2017 required all workers within NYC to have an SST Card ("Site Safety Training"). The Department of Buildings (DOB) in NYC mandated that certain workers and supervisors on large construction sites complete site safety training and obtain SST cards to verify their completion of the training. This initiative is part of the city's effort to enhance safety on construction sites and reduce accidents and fatalities.

To renew your 40hr Worker SST card you will need to complete 8 hours of training. To renew your 62hr Supervisor SST card you will need to complete 16 hours of training.

Yes, you can take all of your SST renewal training online with Able Safety.

SST cards must be renewed prior to expiration in order to keep your SST card in good standing. If your card expires before you have completed your renewal training you will need to retake the original training you completed to obtain your SST card.

To renew your SST card you need to complete a required amount of SST refresher training. Workers will need to complete 8 Hours of SST Refresher training and supervisors will need to complete 16 Hours of SST Refresher training. To register for your SST refresher training please select “Get Started”.

After completing your SST training and ordering your card the card should arrive in 7-10 days.
